If you’ve had experience with Universal Analytics, you may be familiar with Exit Pages, which are pages a user exits your site.

In this post, I will show you where to find exit pages in Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Note: With the Exit metric unavailable in default reports, customization is not an option to view it. The only solution for viewing an Exit page report in GA4 is through Custom Explorations.

Create a custom report to view Exit pages in GA4 by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Reports > Explore in the left navigation menu.
  2. Select the date range for your report.
  3. In the Metrics section, add “Pageviews” and click on the “add metric” button to add it to your report as you can’t view Exit pages without first adding Pageviews.
  4. Now, search for “Exits” in the Metrics section and click on it to add it to your report.
  5. You can now view which web pages and screens users are leaving by observing their exit behavior according to the Pages and Screens report.
  6. Filter by “Exits” to view the Exit page report.
  7. Finally, you can add additional filters if needed and export your data as a CSV file for further analysis!

Difference between bounce rate and exit rate in Google Analytics 4?

It’s crucial to understand the distinction between bounce rate and exit rate – two completely unrelated metrics that can’t be confused.

Exit Rate: Exit rate can provide a valuable insight into how often visitors exited after viewing any number of other pages on the site  in the same session.  Your exit rate is the ultimate measure of your website’s engagement – it tells you how many visitors didn’t find what they were looking for and left to explore other options.

Bounce Rate: Bounce rate in Google Analytics refer to the percentage of visitors who arrive at a page on your website, view that page and then leave without viewing any other pages. Bounce rate is often used as an indicator of how engaging your content is for the visitor.
